The PIA-PR Board of Directors is composed of eight member companies, each represented by the company's top executive in Puerto Rico. Four of these companies represent the manufacturing sector and four represent the commercial sector. In addition, there are four ex-officio members: the PIA-PR Past Chairperson, PIA-PR Executive Vice President, PIA-PR Legal Counselor, and PIA-PR OTC Chairperson. PIA-PR gathers and represents research-based multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies with operations on the island. These are 18 corporations organized in 34 manufacturing operations with 18 commercial entities. The biopharmaceutical industry represents 25% of the island's Gross Domestic Product and 66% of all island exports. The biopharmaceutical industry in Puerto Rico generates over 120,000 direct and indirect jobs on the island.
